We've been having trouble getting our Tilt-A-Whirl level at a few of our rural spots this season. The ground is never perfectly flat and I've been using extra cribbing but it still feels sketchy. Anyone have tips on leveling techniques or shimming methods that work well? How many blocking points do you typically use?
We're a mid-sized carnival based out of Ohio and need two experienced ride operators for September through early November. Must have valid CDL and at least 2 seasons experience. We cover travel, lodging, and meals. DM me if interested or know someone who might be. Pay is competitive and we run a clean show.
Our maintenance schedule says every 30 days but I've heard some shows do it every two weeks during peak season. We run a 60-foot Eli Bridge wheel and it gets a lot of hours. Curious what other operators are doing and what grease you're using. We've been using a lithium-based NLGI #2.
Trying to finalize our fall route and the weather apps are all over the place. Last year we got hit hard by an early storm in Indiana and lost two days of revenue. How do you all plan around unpredictable fall weather? Any favorite radar tools or strategies for shifting dates last minute?
Just wanted to share something fun — we added deep-fried Oreos this season and they're flying out of the fryer faster than funnel cakes. We're doing about 200 orders a night at our biggest spots. Anyone else seeing a shift away from traditional fair food? What's your best-selling new item this year?
I'm revising our daily morning inspection checklist for our kiddie ride section. Right now we check restraints, fences, e-stops, and clearances. Wondering if anyone has additional items they check daily that we might be missing. Especially interested in what you look for on carousel-type rides with moving platforms.
We had two generators overheat during a 100-degree stretch in Texas last week and had to shut down a ride for an hour. We're cleaning the radiators more often and checking oil daily, but looking for any other tricks. Has anyone added auxiliary fans or switched to a different coolant? What's your heat strategy?
Looking forward to the OABA (Outdoor Amusement Business Association) convention this year. It'll be my first time attending. For those who've been before — what should I prioritize? Any must-attend sessions or networking events? Also looking to connect with parts suppliers while I'm there.
We're redesigning our midway game layout for next season. Currently running 6 games in a row but the per-capita has been flat. Thinking about adding a high-value prize game at the front to draw people in. What's working for your game section? Do you cluster by difficulty or mix it up?
We've been posting on Facebook and Instagram but engagement is inconsistent because we move every week. Do you create separate pages for each town or keep one main page? What kind of content gets the best response — ride videos, food pics, behind-the-scenes? Trying to build a following that follows us town to town.
